STATE CERTIFIED CONTRACTORS wanting to build in the un-incorporated area of Sarasota County. To register
your State Certified contractor license you will need to provide Contractor Licensing with the following:
1. A copy of the state certified contractor license
2. The registration/renewal fee
3. A copy of certificate of insurance for general liability
4. A copy of certificate of insurance for worker’s compensation or a copy of the worker’s compensation exemption with a
business name that matches your DBPR license card exactly or your name if you are listed as an “Individual”.
All certificates of insurance must include:
A. The business name that matches your DBPR license card exactly or your name if you are listed as an “Individual”.
B. Sarasota County as certificate holder with the address of 1001 Sarasota Center Blvd, Sarasota FL 34240.
1. If the insurance company or the construction company address is located outside the State of Florida, the
certificate must indicate in the description field that policy coverage applies in the State of Florida.
2. If your company does demolition, a demolition rider must be included or the phrase “Demolition coverage
included” under the description filed on the liability certificate. Demolition permits will not be issued to contractors that do
not have this language on their liability certificate.
3. If you are a MARINE contractor you must have coverage under the Longshoremen’s Act & code 6006F must
be clearly marked on your worker’s compensation certificate. Per State Statute Ref: 440.10
Please send in all registration information together in ONE envelope or in the same fax indicating that the
packet/fax is for a new registration or renewal. Include a company phone, fax, current business address & E-mail on
the cover sheet.
State certified contractors are charged a $45.00 fee per license for a new registration or license renewal.

We offer fee waivers and reduction for contractors over 65 years of age, disable veterans and municipal
employees – check the Licensing Hub for the proper affidavits.
Your contractor license number will be the same as your DBPR card
You will not be issued a licensing card and we do not send out renewal notices to State Certified contractors
If you have signed up for a web account and are awaiting access; please indicate so on your cover sheet and
provide the e-mail address you used to create the login. If you do not get an e-mail from us indicating your web
account was approved within 72 hours; you need to contact us via the fax with your name, e-mail and license
number.
If you are an agent submitting on behalf of a contractor and intend to pull permits online or in person you MUST
ALSO submit a notarized agent authorization form (available at
https://building.scgov.net
under the Licensing
Hub) Please indicate that you have signed up for a web account and let us know the e-mail address.
Web accounts are a privilege, not a right. If we find that a web account is being misused the account will be
closed and you may be subject to disciplinary action. License holders are responsible for the actions of their
agents.
