Description of Categories
Healthy Start Intensive Home Visits
Home visits consist of discussion and hands-on activities using the Parents As Teachers
(PAT) curriculum. Other resources include Partners for a Healthy Baby (PHB), San
Angelo Parenting (SA) and newsletters from the Oregon State University Parenting
Program (OSU). Presented by Certified Parent Educator.
Medical/Developmental Sessions
These sessions consist of physical examinations and information related to prenatal care
and the growth and development of the baby. Provided by Health Care Professional.
Parenting Resource Center
Visits to the Parenting Resource Center at the Columbia Pregnancy Center include
viewing developmental and educational videos related to pregnancy and childbirth.
Proctored by CPC staff.
Parenting Classes
Parenting Classes are specialized group meetings focusing on various areas of growth and
development. Presented by Certified Parent Educator.
WIC
WIC appointments include nutritional training for parents participating in the Women,
Infants, and Childrens Nutrition Program. Facilitated by Certified WIC staff members.
Outside Activities
Additional activities are assigned or approved by the Healthy Start Family Support
Worker and might include homework between Intensive Home Visits, playgroups, etc.
Student Parent documents these activities and they are discussed during Intensive Home
Visits.
