18.4 The Equation of a Parabola
A parabola is the set of all points (x, y) in a plane that are equidistant from a fixed line, the directrix, and
a fixed point, the focus, not on the line. A parabola is the one conic section where the x variable OR the y variable
is squared – not both.
Remember: the vertex is (h, k), and p is the distance from the vertex to the focus point or directrix line.
