Additional Instructions
All transfers of ownership must be recorded with AHA. In consideration of AHA processing the transfer and issuing any new
documents, the seller and buyer agree to be bound and to abide by the Rules and Regulations of AHA.
SIGNATURE AUTHORIZATIONS: Persons wishing to sign for farms, corporations and other “entity” names must be properly
authorized. An Authorization Form, available from the AHA, must be completed, signed, and returned to AHA before the
transfer of ownership will be completed.
MULTIPLE OWNERS: Joint (multiple) ownerships must be recorded in either an “and” form or an “or” form. “And” ownerships
require all signatures for future transfers. “Or” ownerships require only one signature.
OWNERSHIP CHANGE: Any change in the ownership form or name of ownership after a horse has been recorded in that
ownership will constitute an additional transfer and will require payment of an additional transfer fee.
FEES: Transfer fees are based on the length of time between the date of sale and the date this completed Transfer of Race
Horse Form is mailed to AHA for the transfer to be recorded. Please consult a current fee schedule (available from AHA) to
determine the correct fee.
• Transfers submitted without the complete fee will be delayed.
• If a contract sale is involved, the Beginning Date of Contract will be used as the recorded transfer date. The Ending Date of
Contract will be used to determine the correct fee.
• The postmark date will be used to determine when items are mailed to AHA.
1. TRANSFER INFORMATION
This section should be completed in all cases. See above for information regarding sale dates and ownership names.
2. SIGNATURES
A. The current recorded owner should sign here in all cases except for horses which are claimed in a claiming race. If the
horse is claimed in a claiming race, the racing secretary should complete sections B and C.
If the Certificate of registration for Racing is not being held in the office of the racing secretary at a race track, send the
Certificate of Registration for Racing and this form to AHA with the appropriate fee.
If the Certificate of Racing is being held in the office of the racing secretary, this completed form and the appropriate fee
should be returned to AHA to record the transfer of ownership.
B. If the Certificate of Registration for Racing is being held in the office of the racing secretary, the racing secretary should
complete Part B, including the name of the racing secretary and the track. The racing secretary should also complete Part B
and Part C if the horse was claimed in a claiming race.
If the Certificate of Registration is held in the office of the racing secretary, this completed form and the appropriate fee should
be returned to AHA to record the transfer of ownership.
C. Part C should be completed if the horse was claimed in a claiming race. If Part C is completed, Part B must also be
completed by the racing secretary.
If the Certificate of Registration is held in the office of the racing secretary, a notation of the transfer will be returned to the
racing secretary. The notation should be affixed to the Certificate of Registration for Racing.
If the certificate of Registration for Racing is not held in the office of the racing secretary, it must be returned with this form to
record the transfer of ownership. a new Certificate of Registration for Racing will be issued.
