Nervous System and Muscle
1. What is the autonomic nervous system and what does it innervate (might as well
define innervate while we’re at it):
This is the system that controls involuntary muscles
and glandular epithelium. It innervates (acts upon) smooth muscle and
glands.
2. Distinguish between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
I have a chart in our webnotes under “nervous system’ that compares and contrasts
these two parts of the Autonomic Nervous System. Please look at it to find the
answer to this laid out.
3. What kind of muscle is controlled by the autonomic nervous system?
Smooth
4. Recalling the chart we used, what are the 3 types of muscle. Next to each tell whether
it is striated or not and whether it is voluntary or involuntary. See the chart at
5. List the 12 cranial nerves in order using roman numerals. List their motor and/or
sensory function (as we did on the bonus quiz). Now using the first letter of each nerve,
in order, come up with a saying or a way of remember them. (This may seem odd now
but you will be less likely to forget these nerves if you can do this). Trouble? Work
together.
