which compare/contrast the conditions in each city-state. That means you must tell
what life would be like in each city-state for the person each question refers to.
Each answer should be in the form of a short paragraph which begins with an
appropriate topic sentence. (Ex: “If I was a young teenage girl of the citizen class,

1. If you were a young teenage girl of the citizen class, in which city-state
would you rather live? Why?
2. If you were a slave, in which would you rather live? Why? (You do not
need to do extra research as noted on the chart for this answer. Just
read the information on the chart carefully.)

4. If you were a young soldier, in which would you rather live? Why?
5. If you were a very wealthy person of the citizen class, in which would

Carefully read the three-page article to learn the importance of slavery to the
development of democracy in Greece. Write a paragraph in which you describe the
importance of slavery to the development of democracy in Greece. You must
specifically refer to the importance of slavery to urbanization, philosophical
developments, and widespread political interest. You must begin with a topic
sentence (Ex. Slavery was important to the development of slavery in Greece in the
areas of ….). In your own words, you must then provide supporting information
from the article for each area you discuss. End with a concluding sentence.
