Peer Revision & Proof Reading Checklist–
Short Story
€   Circle any words that you feel could be replaced by more specific and more descriptive
words (e.g. pretty, beautiful, big, ugly, small, walk, sit, run, nice).
€   Draw a square around any words, sentences, or paragraphs that do not SHOW what they
mean. Then write “SHOW, don’t tell,” beside the box you have drawn.
€   Put a bracket ( ) around any part(s) that you feel are not necessary in the story and do not
contribute to the author’s purpose in the story. Write “Is this necessary?” beside the
bracket.
€   Read through the story and look for places that the author may need to include more
detail. Write “Include more detail or description” beside the part(s) that need to be added.
