PERSONALIZED LICENSE PLATE SELECTION INSTRUCTIONS

♦ Selections must be shown exactly as you wish them to appear on the license plate.

♦ If approved, the personalized license plates will be manufactured and mailed to your County Tax

Assessor-Collector.

♦ A license number that has already been issued or is deemed to be offensive will not be approved.

♦ Each square of the selection block may be used to represent one alpha or numeric character,

punctuation symbol or space.

♦

No more than five (5) characters, spaces, punctuation symbols or silhouette of Texas. Punctuation

symbols which may be used are periods, dashes, or blank spaces. The silhouette of Texas requires two

selection blocks. Use an asterisk (*) to indicate the Texas silhouette.

♦ The International Symbol of Access (Disabled Person Emblem) requires two selection blocks. If you are

applying for personalized plates, the plate may only consist of three characters, spaces, or punctuation

symbols. Use the percent sign (%) to indicate the International Symbol of Access. Please include a

completed Form VTR-214.

TO OBTAIN THE SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATES, you may be required to surrender your current windshield validation sticker to the

County Tax Assessor-Collector. The regular registration fee and other applicable fees must be paid to the County Tax Assessor-

Collector for the period for which the specialty license plates are valid. If your vehicle is currently registered when the specialty license

plates are issued, the vehicle registration expiration date may need to be adjusted to correspond with the expiration of the specialty

license plates.

If necessary, additional fees will be collected to make this adjustment.

For the $30 plates, the department shall deposit $22 of the $30 application fee to the credit of the sponsoring organization. Of

each fee received, the department shall use $8 to defray its administrative costs. The department shall credit 50 cents from its

administrative costs to the county treasurer of the applicable county, who shall credit the money to the general fund of the

county to defray administrative costs.

For the $40 plates, the department shall deposit $32 of the $40 application fee to the credit of the state highway fund and may

only be used for the Safe Routes to School Program. Of each fee received the department shall use $8 to defray its

administrative costs. The department shall credit 50 cents from its administrative costs to the county treasurer of the

applicable county, who shall credit the money to the general fund of the county to defray administrative costs.

ADDITIONAL PLATES THAT MAY BE AVAILABLE IN THE FUTURE AFTER STATUTORY
