FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
Please retain this information sheet throughout the entire application/admissions process. It contains vital
information regarding the entire financial aid application/granting process including essential deadlines.
The SAIS Financial Aid Office administers financial aid for the Hopkins-Nanjing Center in the form of government loans
and Hopkins-Nanjing Center grants. Grants and fellowships from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center are made to students on the
basis of both academic achievement and financial need. Federal Direct Loans are awarded to students on the basis of
financial need as calculated by the federal methodology in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Since
the primary responsibility for financing educational costs rests with the student, aid from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center
should be considered supplementary to family resources and outside aid. Most students finance their year in Nanjing
through a combination of grant money and Federal loans. Hopkins-Nanjing Center financial aid applications received by
February 1 will be given first consideration for available grants and fellowships.
American citizens and permanent residents applying for Hopkins-Nanjing Center grants and fellowships must submit both
items listed below. Citizens of countries other than the United States need only submit the first item.
1. HOPKINS-NANJING CENTER FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION: The Hopkins-Nanjing Center Financial Aid
Application, included in this document, must be submitted with other application materials by the appropriate application
deadline. At the time of your acceptance, you will be notified of Hopkins-Nanjing Center grant awards.
2. 2014-2015 FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) FORM: Applicants should
complete the FAFSA online at Please read the instructions on the form carefully before you begin
filling it out. It is very important to complete the application using the correct tax information since discrepancies between
the FAFSA and your tax return will delay the disbursement of your financial aid. Your completed FAFSA form must be
submitted to the Federal Student Aid Processor by February 1 for fall 2014 admission. The information from your
processed FAFSA will be sent to the Office of Financial Aid electronically. The federal processor will send a Student Aid
Report (SAR) to you electronically to allow you to verify processed information and to submit any needed corrections. On
the FAFSA form, Hopkins-Nanjing Center students should use the SAIS TITLE IV code: E 00474.
FINAL CHECKLIST:
Your signature on the Hopkins-Nanjing Center Financial Aid Application and the FAFSA form indicates that you
understand that the SAIS Financial Aid Office reserves the right to request additional documentation in support of your
aid application and that you will not receive a financial aid award until you have complied with our requirements. If,
upon receiving notification of Hopkins-Nanjing grants or fellowships you decide that you will not be seeking further
financial assistance, please contact the SAIS Financial Aid Office at 202.663.5706 or Fin_aid@sais-jhu.edu.
