Merit Badge Counselor Agreement

1. FOLLOW THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE MERIT BADGE MAKING NO DELETIONS OR

ADDITIONS, ENSURING THAT THE ADVANCEMENT STANDARDS ARE FAIR AND UNIFORM

FOR ALL SCOUTS.

2. HAVE A BUDDY OR PARENT PRESENT WITH EACH SCOUT AT ALL INSTRUCTIONAL

SESSIONS.

3. RENEW REGISTRATION AS A MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR IN JUNE IF PLANNING TO

CONTINUE SERVING AS A MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR.

4. OBTAIN AND READ PAMPHLET MERIT BADGE COUNSELING (NO. 34520).

The District Dean of Merit Badge Counselors MUST approve or

disapprove the applicant within TWO weeks after receiving this

application and return the application to the council service center.

If an adult application (Form 524-501A) is attached, the Dean must call the three references.

Then acting as the Scout executive’s designee, he signs the form and returns it to the

council registrar, along with the Merit Badge Counselor application.

The Dean calls the applicant and informs him/her which badges he/she is approved and not

approved for. The applicant is then eligible to begin counseling for the approved badges.

Once approved, the Dean enters the new counselor on the master copy of the district’s Merit

Badge Counselor list. The council service center rosters only those registered as merit

badge counselors. The district keeps a roster of counselors indicating their specific merit

badge subject areas.
