Evaluation Checklist
This is an evaluation form that can also serve as a checklist. Speakers should review this form
carefully to see what is required of the “minor” speeches in this class.
Students receive a point total for each item according to the following scale:
Minimal (M) = 1 point
Basic (B)= 2 points
Proficient (P) = 3 points
Distinguished (D) = 4 points. See the rubric and scoring guide on the back of this form.
After the checklist, notes are provided about two or three areas that were particularly strong and areas
that need attention before the next speech

Construct an effective all around introduction (effective
attention getter, reveal topic, credibility, main point
preview)
Organize the speech well including the use of transitions?
Use supporting material well (examples, quotes and
citation)
Construct an effective conclusion (signal the end and
conclude well)
Use effective vocal variety (including rate, volume and
inflection)
Use language well (pronunciation, articulation, verbal
flow) and maintain fluency during the speeches (
occurrences of um, ah, like)
Use effective non-verbal communication (including eye
contact, gestures, physical movement, appearance)
