Transportation

Does the speaker establish the story space and bring the audience into the world of the narrative

by creating an AURA through delivery?

Events

Does each event include the following three elements: (1) A CHARACTER who is located in (2)

a SETTING where one or more (3) ACTIONS take place?

Organization

Is the narrative organized CHRONOLOGICALLY through a SERIES of EVENTS that includes

all the necessary information to tell the story cohesively, including BACKGROUND information

and TRANSITIONS?

Climax

Is the story organized around a COMMON END that ties everything together and provides a

resolution to the DRAMATIC TENSION? Does the climax gain emphasis through the speaker’s

delivery?

Vividness

Are CHARACTERS, SETTINGS, and ACTIONS established through descriptive and expressive

language?

Re-entry

Does the speaker provide appropriate verbal and/or nonverbal cues to indicate the conclusion of

the story and avoid an abrupt ending?
