Women Veterans’ Memorial Recognition Coin
Eligibility Criteria
Women veterans:
1. Veteran status (not on Active Duty)
2. Honorable Service or Under Honorable Conditions
3. Entered service from Maine or lived in Maine for last five years
Active Duty/National Guard/Reserves:
1. Entered service from Maine
2. Enlisted: Must have reenlisted and serving honorably on current tour of duty
3. Officers: Served at least three years
NOTES:
1. Maine Veterans Services is not funded to mail coins.
2. Coin presentation requires military service documentation
a. DD-214 or WW II Discharge Forms
b. Honorable Service Discharge Certificates (DD-256A, etc.)
c. NGB-22
3. Active Duty for Training (ADT) DD-214 does not count
4. Living women veterans will be honored first

Legislature resolved to design a plaque, which was dedicated on February 18, 2011 and
displayed in the State House Hall of Flags. The design depicts Maine women who served in the

U.S. military over four centuries. The 18
century is represented by Hannah Watts Weston,

Revolutionary War patriot; 19
century by Emily W. Dana, Civil War Union Army Nurse; 20
st
century by Patricia A. (Chadwick) Erickson, WWII Women Air Force Service Pilot; and 21
century by Annette M. Bachman, Global War on Terrorism, Maine Army National Guard.
Maine women veterans and Maine women serving on active duty, in the Reserves or the National
Guard who meet the eligibility criteria, will receive a silver commemorative coin in the likeness
of the plaque. The State of Maine offers this coin in appreciation for Maine women veterans’ and
servicewomen’s sacrifices on behalf of our nation.
The memorial plaque and coins are totally funded through private donations. You can make a
donation to help recognize Maine’s women veterans by sending a check made payable to:
“Treasurer, State of Maine” (Please make a note on your check that the donation is for “Maine
Women Veterans’ Recognition”). Mail the check to:
