Dear Applicant,

Enclosed you will find the information necessary to file for a City of Sterling Sales Tax License. This packet

contains the following: a City of Sterling Sales Tax Application (with instructions), a State of Colorado Sales

Tax Application, a Zoning Compliance Permit Application, a Wastewater Questionnaire, and the Sales Tax

Tables.

The State of Colorado Sales Tax Application is provided for your convenience. It must be completed and

returned to the address on the front of the application. There are several 800 numbers listed if you should

have any questions regarding this form.

On the City Sales Tax Application, please fill in the information completely. There is no fee for the City Sales

Tax License.

The Zoning Compliance Permit has a fee of $25.00. Any sales tax applicant for a business inside the Sterling

City limits must fill this out. Please fill in the Applicant’s Name, Address and Phone Number. Give the status

of the Applicant (Owner, Renter, Etc.). If you are not the owner, please list their name, address and phone

number. Next give the location of the building and the use of that building. Then sign and date the application.

If you are not the owner of the property, they will also need to sign this.

The wastewater questionnaire is a requirement mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Once all the forms have been completed return them to the City of Sterling, 421 N. 4

Street, P.O. Box 4000

Attn: Sales Tax. The zoning compliance permit and wastewater questionnaire will be forwarded to Public

Works.

If necessary the Code Enforcement Officer will schedule a time with you to have the property

inspected.

Once the Code enforcement Officer has approved the Zoning Compliance Permit, and the

wastewater application is completed, a City Sales Tax License will be issued. The city sales tax is 3%; state

tax is 2.9%; Logan County is 1% and the RTA tax is .1% for a total of 7%.
