Superload Permits
It is the responsibility of the permittee to reduce all over dimension and/or overweight loads to the least possible
dimension and weight prior to application for a permit.
Superload permits are defined as:
Weight in excess of 132,000 lbs. gross weight.
Weights on axles/axle groupings that exceed permit policy.
Width in excess of 15 feet.
Valid for 10 calendar days for 1 single trip with no return trip (a return trip must be submitted by
separate application if needed).
Identified by both tractor and trailer license and serial #’s.
Issued to the registered owner of the power unit,
Application Fee - $100 non-refundable application fee due and payable when application is submitted for
review (width less than 17 ft. wide is not charged an application fee).
Permit Fee – a base fee of $12 for each over legal dimension of height, length, width or weight will be
charged in addition to a fee of $3.00 per 1,000 lbs. over 132,000 lbs. gross weight.
Processing Time – At least 10 working days prior to the anticipated date of movement,
Requested by submitting Form PF 20 (Superload Permit application including axles spacings and axle
weights). Superloads for overwidth require documentation of variance(s) from the shipper.
Route of Travel – exact origin, detailed route of travel and specific destination. County/state road
numbers and routes are required.
Weights:
Maximum is determined by the total number of axles, design of axle configurations and the bridge structures
being crossed along the specific route of travel.
Travel:
Restricted Sunrise to Sunset – Monday through Saturday
(Unless otherwise specified on the permit in the via route section)
Continuous Travel – 24 hours/7 days is not authorized for any superload permit.
Convoy: Permitted vehicle combinations are not authorized to travel in convoy. Travel distance to be a
minimum of two (2) miles apart. Exception: SHP escort, if required, has the authority to determine
travel time and number of permitted vehicle combinations.
