Lesson 2
Time: 45 minutes
Green Eggs and Ham
Resources:
cartoon, 12 flashcards, picture/word cards
and game boards – enough sets for a whole class to play in pairs or small
groups.
1. Review the vocabulary using the flashcards, including boarding the
spellings of each word.
(5-10 minutes)
2. Watch the cartoon. Give the flashcards out to students beforehand.
They should hold their flashcard in the air every time it is mentioned in the
cartoon.
(10 minutes)
3. Give each student one of the small picture/word cards. The students
walk around the room, showing other students the picture side of their card.
They ask “What‟s this?” … and … “How do you spell it?” Each time students
test each other in this way, they should switch cards before moving on to
ask other students.
(5-10 minutes)
4. Game. Students can play in pairs or small groups. Each group will need a
set of 30 picture/word cards, a game board and counters (coins, tiddlywinks,
erasers etc). All players start on the house and move around the board.
First to reach the green eggs and ham is the winner. Players move in turn by
taking a picture card and attempting to spell the word shown. If successful,
they can move a number of spaces equivalent to the number of letters in the
word. So „boat‟ is worth 4 moves, and „cat‟ is worth 3 moves.
(15-20 minutes)
Filler: Use some of the vocabulary from the game or book to play hangman.
