Family and friends of the deceased are invited to take an active role in preparing and
participating in the funeral services for their loved one. Here are some possibilities:
OPENING RITES (When the body is present)
During the ritual at the baptismal font you may:
Bless the casket with holy water _________

If you know friends or family who are trained Communion Ministers
they are welcome to help serve communion. We need two cup ministers
at most funerals; large funerals require four cup ministers and one bread minister:

The parish can readily provide altar servers unless family or friends wish to serve.

SHARING
Sharing by the family and friends is most appropriate at the Vigil service. If one family member
or friend would like to ay a few words at the funeral mass (following communion), that is
acceptable:

GRAVE SIDE SERVICES
At Holy Cross, Calvary and Sunset Cemeteries we have the option of lowering the casket during
the grave side ritual (other cemeteries may not allow this option).
