Staffing Plan for 2013-2014
Directions: Explain in a concise and coherent manner, how your district will be staffed next
year to ensure all third grade students that are retained or on a reading improvement and
monitoring plan will receive the high-quality reading instruction necessary to enhance and
accelerate their reading growth.
During the 2012-2013 school year, all 100 third grade students met the criteria to progress to
the fourth grade – no retentions. We have two reading teachers in the third grade. Based on
previous years’ data, these two reading teachers have obtained varying level passing rates
ranging between 90%-95% on the reading area of the third grade OAA. We would like to keep
these two successful reading teachers in their current positions because of their high success
rate and effective instructional implementation of reading content. At this time, one third grade
teacher has been trained in the Beginning Level Practicum in Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory
Teaching. Moreover, Holmes Primary was named a School of Promise in 2009-2010 and
2011-2012. The teachers have received professional development specific to their grade level
and content. It is very important to maintain our current structure and integrity of our program
to ensure that all students continue to learn. If we move teachers from one grade level to
another, their expertise will no longer be utilized.
Staffing Plan for 2014-2015
Directions: Explain in a concise and coherent manner, your district’s plans to ensure all
teachers grades K-3 meet the teacher qualifications requirements within the Third Grade
Reading Guarantee legislation.
Deer Park is working with Xavier University to bring a Reading Endorsement cohort to our
district. Teachers would meet once a week with a Xavier Professor to receive the instruction
needed to receive their K-12 reading endorsement. The completion timeline is approximately
one year.
If for some reason Xavier is not able to provide this service, the staff will be moved in order to
be compliant with the law and professional development specific to each content and grade
level will be provided during early dismissal days throughout the school year so all staff will
become experts in their content area.
