Use Temperature
As part of a project on weather for her science class, Ann is researching the average high
and low temperatures of several cities in the United States for the month of December.
Use the clues below to fill in the temperature chart.
In December, the low temperature in New York is equal to the freezing point of water
and the low temperature in Denver is half this temperature.
If New York’s low temperature rises 12 degrees and then drops 7 degrees, it will be
the same temperature as Chicago’s high temperature.
If Chicago’s high temperature drops 10 degrees, rises 2 degrees, and then drops
another 5 degrees, it will be at its low temperature.
Take Chicago’s low temperature and double it. This is the low temperature in Los
Angeles. If this temperature drops 4 degrees, it will equal New York’s high
temperature.
The high temperature for New York is the same as the high temperature for Denver.
If Los Angeles’s low temperature rises 22 degrees and then rises another 10 degrees,
it will equal Miami’s high temperature. Miami’s high temperature is 9 degrees higher
than Los Angeles’s high temperature.
At noon, Miami is at its average high temperature. The temperature rises 4 degrees by
2:00
.
. and then decreases 4 degrees an hour. By 7:00
.
. it is at its average low
