* What causes the verb to change? We change the verb based on the person doing the action.

The verb in English is actually “to be”, we use that form if nobody is actually doing the action (I

want to be…etc). If someone is doing the verb, it changes – am, is, are.

* In Spanish we do the same thing. We start with the verb Ser (to be) and we change it

depending on who does the action. The big difference in Spanish is that there are 6 different

forms of the verb, instead of 3. This actually makes it a lot easier to tell who is doing the action

because there isn’t much overlap.

Vosotros – Sois (Spain only)

Ellas – Son

I am smart – Yo soy inteligente.

We are crazy – Nosotros somos locos.

You are tall – Tú eres alto.

You guys are serious – Vosotros sois serios.

He is small – Él es pequeño.

They (girls) are tall – ellas son altas.
