Options for tax-filers:
Federal law requires use of one of the following methods to verify income for tax-filers. We may still
request a copy of tax returns under certain circumstances to verify additional information as we deem necessary.
1. **IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL (DRT)**: To transfer your 2012 IRS income tax information into your FAFSA, go to FAFSA.gov,
log in, select “Make FAFSA Corrections,” and navigate to the Financial Information section. Follow the instructions to
determine if you are eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. When transferring your tax information, DO NOT MAKE ANY
CHANGES TO THE IRS DATA. NOTE: It can take up to two weeks for IRS tax information to be available for those who file
their IRS tax return electronically, and up to eight weeks for those who file by postal mail.
2. **TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPTS**: Unless otherwise instructed, you MUST submit a tax return transcript, NOT your tax
return. When ordering transcripts, have them sent directly to you, NOT to our office. You can request a FREE 2012 tax
return transcript online at or by calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Be sure to request the FREE 2012 tax return
transcript. If you do not receive your transcript within the time frame expected, contact our office for further instructions.
THERE IS A COPY MACHINE IN THE LIBRARY. ALWAYS SUBMIT COPIES AND KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL.
