Please choose one of the following questions about the book you are reading. If
you read more than one book throughout the week, please choose one of the
books to answer the question. If you are reading a book that takes longer to
read, make sure you choose a different question each week.
1. What problems does one of the characters have and how does he/she solve
them?
2. What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing this book?
3. If you were in a problem situation like one in the book, how would you have
acted? Be sure to tell what the situation is.
4. What lesson did you learn from the story?
5. In a good paragraph, state the main idea of the book.
6. Compare two of the characters in this book.
7. Pretend you are a librarian recommending this book to someone. Write a
paragraph telling what you would say.
8. The climax of any book or story is the exciting or interesting part. Tell what
you think is the climax of the book and why.
9. Identify one problem in the book and give an alternate solution one not given
by the author.
10. Did you like the way the story ended? Why or why not?
11. Compare how the main character felt at the beginning of the book to how
he/she felt at the end of the book. How did the character change?
12. Describe some qualities one of the characters had that you either admired
or disliked. Explain why you feel this way.
13. Describe 3 cause/effect relationships found in the book.
14. Is the title a good one or a poor one? Explain.
15. If you could rewrite the ending of this book, what would you change and
why?
16. If your story occurred long ago, compare that time with today in a good
paragraph. If it was a modern story, compare it with a long time ago and tell
what would be different.
17. Did this book remind you of anything that has happened to you? What?
Why?
18. Imagine you were the main character in this story, how would you have
reacted to one of the challenges the main character had faced. Make sure you
tell what the challenge was!
19. Which character in this book would you choose to be friends with? Why?
20. Tell about the most exciting event that took place in the book. Be sure to
support your answer with three reasons why it was exciting!
