Select One of the Following
On-line Book Review. Go to
and post a quality on-line book review. Print it, attach it to
this document, and turn it in.
Write a Letter to the Author. Share your reactions to the book in a letter written to the author. If your author is
still alive, you can conduct the necessary research and mail the letter to the author (or publicist). If you do, you
will be exempt from the written assignment next time, but you will still be required to read a book.
Sell It. Pretend you are a publicist for the book that's just been read. Write and then delivers a 60-second speech
that will persuade other students to read the book. Writing and speaking persuasively will be especially difficult if
you didn’t particularly love the book; therefore, don’t share that information prior to presenting your case.
Interview a Character. Compose eight to ten questions to ask the protagonist or antagonist in your book. Write
the character's response to each question. The questions and answers should insightful and thought-provoking.
Script It. Write a movie script for a favorite scene in the book. At the top of the script, assign real-life TV or
movie stars to play each role. If you perform the scene on the stage with classmate(s), you will be exempt from
the written assignment next time, but you will still be required to read a book. Those who help you will not be
exempt.
Concentration. You will need thirty index cards to create a Concentration-style game related to a book you
read. Choose fourteen things, characters, or events that played a part in the book and create two cards that have
identical pictures of each of those things. The two remaining cards are marked Wild Card! You and your selected
partner will demonstrate playing the game.
Characters Come to Life. Create life-size "portraits" of the protagonist or antagonist from your book. The
portrait should include a written piece that tells about the character. The piece might also include information
about events, traits, or conflicts in the book that involve that character. Your portrait will be displayed in class.
