Lab Report Format
Mrs. Jahshan - Chemistry 1-2
Title: Name of the lab experiment
Purpose:
Write a clear, brief description of exactly what the experiment is intended to
demonstrate. In other words, why is it being done?
You also may state what you expect to learn.
Materials:
List the specific equipment and materials needed to perform the experiment .
(Like the ingredients of a recipe)
Procedure/ Flow chart:
Write clear, specific, and brief numbered steps describing how to perform the
experiment in your own words. Read the procedure and write it
down in a simpler, abbreviated form. (Like the steps to follow in a recipe).
This should not be in essay format. This section should be detailed and
clear enough that the reader could duplicate the experiment.
You may use labeled drawings instead of written steps if desired.
(Note any changes made by your teacher on the day of the experiment to your
procedure).
Data/Calculations:
1. 1. The data table is where you will record all the raw data taken throughout
the experiment. Every number written here must have the correct unit beside
it.
2. 2. An example of each type of calculation done in the lab is shown here.
Questions:
Answer the Questions listed in the experiment (after the experiment is finished).
Number the questions as they appear in the lab handout .
Conclusion:
Write one sentence that just states the result for the experiment.
example: The empirical formula of the hydrate was ________________.
example: The density of the metal was _________________.
