THE COLLEGE-LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP)
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) was founded by the College Boards and the Carnegie Corporation in
1967 to help adult students begin or continue their educations. The program tests people on knowledge acquired in a
variety of ways: in school, at work, in the military, or through reading and personal experience. University College
accepts CLEP credits toward the Associate in Arts degree or Bachelor of Science degree. For specific information, contact

Individuals who take the test and wish to apply for credit through University College should have the results sent to:

University College will grant credit to students for successful completion of the College Level Examination
Program (CLEP) tests under the following conditions:
1.
CLEP credit applies only to students admitted to an Associate in Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in University
College. A maximum of 30 units (credits) (maximum 24 units can be applied to an A.A. degree) can be earned
through CLEP testing. Test credit cannot be used for residency purposes.

The minimum credit-granting score for CLEP tests is a “50,” which represents a letter grade of “C.” A maximum
of three (3) units credit may be earned per examination.
3.
CLEP credit will not be allowed when a student has received credit for a more advanced or comparable course in
the subject. For example, credit will not be allowed for the College Algebra examination if the individual is
currently enrolled in, or has ever completed Algebra or a more advanced math course.
4.
CLEP credit may be awarded for examinations taken prior to admission in University College, but those scores
will not be reviewed until students have been admitted to an associates or bachelor’s degree in University
College. Students who wish to have previous CLEP test scores evaluated for credit in University
College; or Students who are preparing to take the CLEP test must complete the Request to

The CLEP tests must be taken and scores received by University College prior to the beginning of the student's
final semester. Credit will not be granted for tests taken during the student's final semester in University
College.
