The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, 550 local volunteers helped the

Cape Fear Chapter provide the following vital programs and services in Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover and Pender

counties: 3,161 area residents were trained in lifesaving skills such as CPR and ﬁrst aid; 601military families were assisted with emer-

gency communications; 681 military families received vital information through our Get To Know Us program; 19,160 units of blood

were collected and distributed to area hospitals to meet the needs of local patients; 396 area residents were assisted with emergency

basic needs in the aftermath of disaster; and 35,000+ community members received disaster prevention and preparedness education

and information through outreach activities.
