Farida Shah was a deeply committed and hard-working member of OWSD. She contributed greatly to the
executive board and to the Malaysia National chapter and did a great deal to further the position and
number of women in science in developing countries. We will miss her.

Dearest Professor Farida,
It was an unacceptable moment for me to hear your departure, as I was not prepared for this moment.
Nonetheless, your contribution to the OWSD as well as OWSD, Malaysian Chapter is highly recognized
and appreciated. The establishment of the OWSD, Malaysian Chapter in 11 August 2011 was owing to
your perseverance, determination and burning desire to provide mentorship to all women in Malaysia.
Your advice and encouragement notes will be remembered forever and OWSD chapter will continues
your spirit to provide mentorship to all women.
Thank you so much and may you rest in peace.
With warmest wishes,
Lim Yang Mooi

Farida was a deeply committed and hard-working member of OWSD, her concerns were to help young
scientists to go ahead with their scientific carriers, to establish a close relation between science and
industry, empowering scientific women, and that OWSD and TWAS deeply contribute in empowering
women scientists for development of the developing countries in their own model. She always had new
ideas and initiatives and went further to implement them. We lost a great women and wonderful friend.

Farida, wherever she went, always will live in our hearts and thoughts, as an example of a woman in
science committed to her country and to science in the developing world !
All of us, TWAS and OWSD Members, will keep her memory forever and will continue her heritage and
dreams.

I am so sad to learn that we cannot see Farida any more. Farida contributed tremendously during the
establishment of the Special Committee for Women in Science and Engineering in AASSA. She had ever
a young mind I always admired. It is indeed a great loss for all of us. May God rest her soul in peace and
comfort.
