I have decided to take part in a service trip to St. Lucia for two weeks in January 2014. The opportunity

is offered through Good News Project, a 30 year old non-profit organization based in Wausau, WI. It will

be a firsthand experience of life and culture among the West Indian people.

The main objective of the service trip this year is to build a dormitory for teenage girls that have

suffered some sort of abuse in their young lives. The dormitory we build will be on the Upton Gardens

Girls Centre property, a government and privately supported institution. In addition, I will get the

chance to teach arts and crafts in a school, visit the imprisoned, spend time with the orphans of the Holy

Family Childrens’ Home, and walk the mountains to visit the homebound with the Missionaries of

Charity (Mother Theresa’s sisters!). I will also have the opportunity to spend time at the beach, take a

tour of the island and meet community and religious leaders of the country and work alongside many St.

Lucian and other American volunteers.

I would like to present you with three opportunities to participate in this service trip;

I ask that you pray for me and the people I will encounter during this two week experience. I hope to

return to the United States with an increased awareness of the least of my brothers and sisters and to

truly have made a difference in the lives of others.

Another way you can participate is by signing up to attend this trip with me, or a comparable Good

News Project trip during January and/or February. Dates and destinations are available on their website

The final way you can participate is to support me financially. The cost of my trip is $2000. I am hoping

to offset part of the trip cost. If you are able to donate toward my trip, please:

a) Make a check payable to Good News Project; please do not make the check out to me.

b) Write “Trip Participation” in the memo line

c) Send your check to me at the address on this letter

I will deliver your check to Good News Project and, because your gift is tax deductible, Good News

Project will send you an acknowledgement and receipt.
