Learn the Content:
Materials Needed: Pig Will Be Pigs worksheet, play money, discuss grouping tally marks
by 5’s
Math Objective: Students will be able to actively listen to story and put tally marks
on worksheet for the coins found during the story.
Math Objective: Students will be able to skip count and add all the coins to come up
with the total dollar amount found in the story.
Students will:

Pre-Teach: Listen to and discuss “Pigs will be Pigs” during morning calendar
time. Connect some of the concepts in the story to the things we practice during
calendar time or Math time.

Practice skip counting coins Ex: $.05 x4=$.20
$.10 x5=$.50

Practice tally marks and grouping by sets of 5

Work in small groups and discuss ways to best count all the money found.
Reinforce the Content Learning:
Students will:
- Actively listen to the story and make tally marks in appropriate coin values box
on student worksheet
- Work in small groups to see if they have the same number of tally marks for
each coin value.
- Students will then total values for each coin found
- Activity page should be displayed on the promethean. Students will then
complete activity independently and receive assistance as needed.
