following semester. Students will remain on “second Probation” for the following semesters as long as the semester GPA remains above a 2.0 and the
student does not receive punitive grades (F), or until the CGPA is raised to a 2.0 or higher.
UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS: If a student currently on “second probation” has a semester GPA that falls below 2.0, or if they receive a
punitive grade, their VA benefits will be suspended. Students that are on VA suspension are not certified for VA benefits.
Reinstatement of Benefits: Students under VA suspension may choose to continue taking courses without being certified for VA benefits, Students that
successfully complete a semester enrolled in at least ½ time status and obtain a 2.0 of higher GPA, with no punitive grade may have their VA benefits
reinstated.
TRANSFER STUDENTS: A transfer student who is admitted to Alvin Community College and who was under academic probation or suspension at the last
school attended will be considered to fall under the terms of probation listed above. Returning or Transfer students may seek written approval for the Dean
of Students Services to exclude credits taken prior to military service from being considered in the CGPA requirement for satisfactory progress for VA
purposes only. These students are required to meet the Satisfactory Progress guidelines as explained above starting the first semester they enroll in ACC
after completing their required military service.
INFORMATION RELEASE:
I give permission to release information including attendance, grades, and classroom
issues in order to determine academic progress and eligibility for continued benefits.
Attention Post 911 Veterans (Chapter 33): Please read and Initial each item below.
______You are responsible for any tuition or fees not covered by the VA. If you currently have an
unresolved overpayment issue with the VA they will not pay your tuition, fees or monthly stipend.
______Failure to notify the VA Certifying Official of any changes in your course load may result in a
substantial overpayment from the VA. You are responsible to repay the VA for any overpayments of
you tuition, fees, and living stipends. ACC will not refund your tuition and fees unless you follow the
refund procedures & deadlines outlined in the schedule.
______To receive the living stipend you must be enrolled in more than half time status and taking at
least one course in a classroom environment.
______You must submit a VA “Certification of Eligibility” letter prior to being certified for benefits.
______You must verify your class enrollment with the VA Certifying Official after the first day of class
and before the census date each semester or you will be dropped from your classes.
______Failure to attend classes will result in failing grades and will be reported to the VA. You are
responsible for repayment of tuition, fees and benefits if you fail to attend class.
______Dropping classes will result in an overpayment issue with the VA. You are responsible for
repaying the VA the funds owed prior to being certified for benefits the next semester.
