Partner Work Appointment Clocks
Need a quick way to get students paired for partner work? Use the blank clock on the next page to
set up hourly appointments.
Directions
Make one copy of the blank clock for each student.
Review expressions of time in the target language.
Model expressions students will need to complete this activity.
-
"Are you free at noon?"
-
"No, I'm sorry, I'm busy."
-
"At what time are you free?"
-
"I'm free at 2 o'clock. Can we meet at 2 o'clock?"
-
"Yes, I'm free at 2 o'clock."
Tell students to draw a clock hand for each of the twelve hours.
Direct students to speak only in the target language.
Explain that they are to move around the classroom, making appointments with twelve different
students. When the student find a classmate who can meet at the agreed upon hour, each student
signs the other's clock. Be sure that students understand that they will make only one
appointment for each hour and that they are both to sign for the same hour.
Tell the students to keep the completed clock in their notebooks so
that they will have access to it each day.
When you plan a paired activity, simply direct the students to quickly find their "2 o'clock
appointment" and to sit together with this student. If a partner is absent, students may sit with
another student whose partner is absent or you may wish to have the student work with others as a
group of three.
