1) Students of any age and playing any repertoire are eligible, but preference is given to students playing
repertoire at an equal or more demanding level to the pieces listed below.
2) The concerto performances will take place on the Friday of each week. Students will be accompanied by
faculty of the program, and volunteer players from the community. The chamber ensemble will consist of
between 4-10 musicians.
3) The audition will be held during the first day of each week, from 3-4 PM. Please bring sheet music for the
piano accompaniment.
4) One string and one piano student should be selected each week; however, faculty reserve the right to
select only one student, or to select three if warranted by playing level.
5) Auditioners must perform by memory, and without the use of any music. They must be free to perform on
the Friday concert, depending on their week(s) of attendance.
6) The concerto competition is open to the public to observe- it is a mini-concert itself. Please do not
emphasize the element of competition to your child, as we hope each child to have a fun, enjoyable
performance. We will not publicly announce the winners to the students, but they will be featured as
soloists during the final concert and noted as winners in the program and announcements.
7) Students who win the concerto competition may be asked to focus on their concerto during lessons, and
to forgo work on their solo piece, if both pieces are not ready for performance on the first day. This will allow
faculty to polish the concerto, as an outstanding example of top performance on the final concert.
