1LT TOM MARTIN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
HIGH ADVENTURE SCHOLARSHIP
The 1LT Tom Martin Memorial Foundation is named in honor of 1LT Tom Martin who served with distinction in the
United States Army and was killed in action in Iraq on 14 October 2007. 1LT Martin began his military service as an
enlisted member of the United States Army and later was accepted to and graduated from the United States Military
Academy at West Point. 1LT Martin was also a graduate of the United States Army Ranger School (Airborne).
In his youth, Tom Martin earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting’s Highest Rank, as a member of Troop 201 of Cabot,
AR. He worked as a staff member at Camp Nile Montgomery (now Camp Rockefeller) where he served as a member of
the COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) Instruction Team and also the Waterfront Staff. He attended many
treks at Philmont Scout Ranch (Cimarron, NM) and canoed, portaged, and camped the entire length of the Buffalo
National River during his Scouting career. These adventures fostered his love for these and other outdoor challenges.
Because of Tom’s love of Scouting, the outdoors, and specifically the high adventure bases and programs of Scouting,
the 1LT Tom Martin Memorial Foundation has partnered with the Quapaw Area Council, Inc. to fund an annual $1000
scholarship for a Quapaw Area Council Boy Scout that posseses the same love of the outdoors and adventure and who
has a financial need.
