The selection criteria are very clear, favoring those applicants with the best academic
results and who, due to their serious economic and financial situation (members of low-
income families), are unable to enroll in universities overseas. The number of scholarship
spaces always depends on our actual economic reality. The selection, which can be very
tough for the members of the Committee, involves a number of specialists (a Cuban doctor,
the head of the Cuban Teachers team, two consultant professors, an official from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of the Scholarship Unit from the Ministry of Finance, an
official from the Ministry of Health, and some others) who go thoroughly through each
applicant’s file to determine who best meet the criteria.
