Rhode Island Aircraft Registration Program & Instructions
Aircraft Requiring Registration
1.
All airworthy aircraft based, or primarily used, in the state of Rhode Island for more than ninety (90) days in a calendar year must be registered
with the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) by completing and submitting an Aircraft Registration Application form and paying the
applicable annual registration fee to RIAC.
2.
This requirement does not apply to:
a.
Aircraft owned by, and used exclusively in the service of government, including the government of the United States or any state
thereof, or political subdivision thereof, which is not engaged in carrying persons or property for hire;
b.
Aircraft registered under the laws of a foreign country;
c.
Aircraft based in another state and located in Rhode Island for less than ninety (90) days in a calendar year; or
d.
Aircraft engaged principally in federally certificated scheduled airline operations.
3.
The owner of an unworthy aircraft on state airport property shall notify the airport manager on the airport where the aircraft is based stating
when the aircraft became unairworthy, the reason for the unairworthy condition and the expected date of reinstatement to an airworthy
condition. The owner shall notify the airport manager when the aircraft returns to airworthy status.
4.
The owner of an unworthy aircraft on private property shall notify the RIAC Aeronautics Inspector stating when the aircraft became
unairworthy, the reason for the unairworthy condition and the expected date of reinstatement to an airworthy condition. The owner shall notify
the RIAC Aeronautics Inspector when the aircraft returns to airworthy status.
5.
Registration and payment of the Registration Fee is in lieu of state personal property taxes on the aircraft.
6.
The deadline for receipt by RIAC of aircraft registration renewal application forms is June 30.
7.
Failure to register an aircraft as specified is a violation of RI General Laws § 1-4-6 and may result in a late fee, as follows, in addition to the
standard fee:
New Application Instructions
1.
Please complete the Registration Application Form in its entirety and sign.
2.
The gross landing weight of your aircraft in pounds determines your Registration Fee
Payment of the Registration Fee must be by check, money order, or credit card. DO NOT SEND CASH!

For check or money order payments, please return the completed Aircraft Registration Application form and your check or money order made
payable to: Rhode Island Airport Corporation
5.
For credit card payment, please complete the attached credit card payment form include the form with the Aircraft Registration Application
form.
6.
Please mail payment and registration form to:

7.
For renewal applications, your information on file will be printed on the form the renewal application form and mailed to the address on file.
Please review the information for accuracy and type or print any corrections. Please check the appropriate box toward the bottom of the form
indicating whether or not corrections were made.
8.
Renewal registration fees are due on or before 6/30.
9.
A late payment fee may be applied for renewal registrations received after 7/31 = $25; 8/31 = $50; 9/30 = $75.
Cancellation and Refund Instructions
1.
Upon disposal of the aircraft through sale, permanent disassembly or destruction, complete the Application for Refund instructions found on the
back of your RI State Aircraft Registration form.
2.
If the aircraft has been sold, forward a copy of the Bill of Sale along with the Application for Refund.
3.
Re-imbursement will be made at 50% of the Registration Fee through December 31; 25% through March 31; 0% for the remainder of the
registration period.
