CONFIDENTIAL
The following questions are
and should not be read in Lodge or to Petitioners.
(USE SUCH QUESTIONS AS MAY APPLY TO VARIOUS KINDS OF PETITIONERS)
Your Lodge is guided by the report of its Committee on Investigation. The responsibilities of your committee are
vastly greater than any other committee. The future of your Lodge depends on the quality of the men we are admitting
today.
Therefore, it is vitally important that the Lodge receives a thorough, impartial and complete report from its
Committee on Investigation.
You should not be unduly influenced in favor of the applicant by the prominence of the signers of the petition, as
members have been known to endorse a petition with very limited knowledge of the petitioner. It is imperative that you
contact the applicant personally, at his home.
Remember my Brother that ours is not a reformatory institution. Our design is and always has been to aid making
good men better, not unacceptable men good. Failure to find a specific reason to disqualify a man does not in itself entitle
him to enter our portals – THERE MUST BE SOMETHING FOR HIM. We, however, must be diligent at guarding the West
Gate and not be influenced by membership numbers or goals. Finally, if in doubt, give the benefit to the Lodge and
Freemasonry as an institution.
