The following job description is established by the Board of Directors of the Berthoud Fire

Protection District (District) to outline the basic duties and responsibilities of the above

captioned position. This position is a non – paid position and is exempt from the minimum wage

and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position of Reserve Shift Firefighter/ requires extensive training in responding to,

combating, extinguishing, preventing fires and performing rescue work. The individual will be

required to learn and participate in the performance of tasks in emergency situations, which may

require strenuous exertion under adverse conditions such as heat, smoke, and confined spaces.

The job requires the individual to complete appropriate training and attain minimum

certification, learn all streets and water supply resources in the District and be familiar with the

operation of fire/rescue apparatus and equipment. Mechanical aptitude is important as it relates

to the basic preventative maintenance of fire/rescue apparatus and equipment required to

maintain the District’s Fleet. It is also important to have in order to complete the required report

writing which supports the fire/rescue apparatus and equipment maintenance and repairs.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Have a high school diploma or equivalent

2. Possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License

3. Must meet the “Minimum Standard Guidelines,” i.e. criminal/driving history

4. Successfully complete the District’s testing/selection process

5. Obtain the following certifications within twelve (12) months of hire:

a. Firefighter I / State of Colorado

b. Hazardous Material Operations / State of Colorado

c. Emergency Medical Technician - Basic / 1

d. CPR / American Heart Association

e. NWCG 130/190 & “Arduous” Pack Test Red Card
