This publication provides information as to how Kansas taxes apply
to the sale, rental or lease of motor vehicles and related transactions.
Using common industry examples, it explains the transactions that are
taxable and those that are exempt.
Also included is information about how to report and pay the taxes.
By law, businesses are now required to submit their Sales, Compensating
Use and Withholding Tax returns electronically. Kansas offers several
electronic file and pay solutions – see page 22.
Use this publication as a supplement to KDOR’s (Kansas Department
of Revenue) basic sales tax publication, KS-1510, Kansas Sales and
Compensating Use Tax. Motor vehicle dealers and other retailers will
find our publication KS-1520, Kansas Exemption Certificates, very
useful as well. Both can be found on our web site.
