Game Pieces
To begin, black pieces go on the dark squares and silver pieces go on the light squares. The defending red pieces can be arranged any way
within the citadel. Red pieces move along allocated lines within the citadel, but if they exit they may occupy light or dark squares.
General: The General starts the game on the far right corner. The invading Generals can move 1 – 3 squares at a time, but the defending
General can only move one square at a time. The invading Generals can move forward, diagonally, or side-to-side on light or dark squares.
The defending General may move in any direction.
Colonel: The Colonel starts on the far left corner. Invading Colonels may move 1 – 2 spaces forward or sideways at a time on dark or light
squares. The defending Colonel can move forward, back, or side-to-side.
Captain: The Captains flank the General and Colonel. They can only move one square at a time, forward or sideways on any color square.
Lieutenant: The Lieutenants start in the middle two squares of the last row. They can move 1 – 2 squares at a time, but only diagonally along
their own color.
Soldier: The soldiers start along the two rows in front of the other pieces. The invading soldiers can move forward only one square at a time,
diagonally along their own color. Defending soldiers may move backwards too, but also must move diagonally: 3 on white, 3 on black.
