As a result of the accumulating eff ect of errors when calculations are performed with measured values, the
following conventions are usually applied.
• When adding or subtracting measured quantities, the degree of accuracy of the answer is limited by the
measurement with the least decimal place accuracy.
• When multiplying or dividing with measured quantities, the degree of accuracy of the answer is limited
by the measurement with the least number of signifi cant fi gures.
