Second graders have been making great strides in their reading this year and now have an interest in
getting to know book characters better through their stories. To ensure that reading habits and abilities
stay strong during the summer months, second graders are encouraged to complete a voluntary summer
reading program. Students are asked to read either 2 chapter books OR 10 picture books to complete their

summer reading requirement. Please see the suggested reading list for rising 3
grade students if you want
book ideas. Otherwise, any book of interest that your child manages well independently will be acceptable.

The reading log must be returned to the 3
grade teacher on the first day of school. Students returning
their reading log will receive an extra credit grade of 100 in the subject area of reading for the first quarter.
If your student reads beyond the requirement stated above, they will receive an extra credit grade of 100 in
the subject area where it is needed most for the first quarter of the school year.
