Example:

1. Simile: “The storm came up out of the southwest like a fiend. The wind…was as foul as the devil’s own

breath. The sail shook like a leaf in a tempest” (Page 23). These similes make it very clear that the boat is

caught in a terrible and possibly magical storm.
