Employee Guidelines: Tuition Assistance, Conferences,
Training Programs, Certifications, Registration, and Licensures
Employees who voluntarily terminate employment within one year of receiving their last tuition assistance reimbursement
must repay to the company all tuition assistance funds received within their last 12 months of employment.
Attending External Conferences or Training Programs
Employees are encouraged to request to participate in external conferences and training programs that assist them in
gaining advanced training and knowledge applicable to their current position.
Managers are encouraged to allow participation in such external conferences and are required to provide consistency in
regards to granting authorization. Participation will be decided on a case-by-case basis, and managers will consider
whether the training event will further the requesting employee’s development, knowledge, and skill base as they relate to
his or her current position, as well as how MCG may benefit from the participation.
Employees requesting to attend an external conference or training program must complete the Conference and Training
Request Form and submit it to the department manager responsible for managing that department’s budget.
If the employee is a present or speaker at the conference, Milliman’s Health Steering Committee or corporate
reimbursement may be available.
Upon approval, all reasonable expenses related to the training or conference program will be covered by MCG.
If the conference benefits an entire department or team, the employee may be required to give an overview of the
conference contents or a portion of the conference contents to his or her immediate supervisor and colleagues.
There are no length-of-employment eligibility requirements regarding training and conference participation.
Employee Certifications, Licensures, and Memberships
MCG will pay for professional licenses and certifications required for employment from the city, state, or federal
government.
Association or membership dues for employees working at MCG may be paid by the Company provided that the
membership directly relates to the employee’s current job, and provided that belonging to the organization is of benefit to
both the employee and MCG.
Requests for certification, licensures, or memberships should be made in writing to the department manager responsible
for managing the department’s budget. The request should indicate relevant information such as cost, affiliation, and type
of license. No form is required.
There are no length-of-employment eligibility requirements regarding reimbursement for certifications, licensures, and
memberships.
Preparation or training classes taken to prepare for certification, licensure, or related exams are excluded from this
guideline.
Funding
Department Heads will work in conjunction with the Executive Team to develop an annual training budget for each
department. In determining their annual budgets, Department Heads will be asked to estimate expected expenses
regarding tuition assistance, conferences, training programs, certifications, registrations, licensures, and other related
items. Managers will manage their department’s annual training budget.
