The Academic Staff Member understands and agrees that any benefits to which he/she is entitled will
finish on the End Date, including any sickness or disability leave benefits. The Academic Staff
Member acknowledges and agrees that any illness, injury or affliction sustained before the End Date
will not extend employment beyond the End Date, and that the University will have no further
financial obligation of any sort to him/her after the End Date beyond the Severance Payment.

The Academic Staff Member will have until the End Date to use his/her Professional Expense
Reimbursement balance. A claim for reimbursement must be submitted no later than one month after
the End Date.
9.
If at the End Date, the Academic Staff Member has in his/her possession any assets of the University
purchased through his/her Professional Expense Reimbursement, he/she will be afforded the
opportunity to purchase certain equipment (at the discretion of the University) at the value to be
determined by Supply Management Services at the time with a decision to purchase finalized at least
one month before the End Date
10. The Academic Staff Member agrees to return all University property in his/her possession, including
but not limited to, laptop, cell phone, office and filing cabinet keys, and corporate credit card.
11. Nothing in this Agreement or Release shall release or discharge from any complaint or related
proceeding that can be made pursuant to the University of Alberta Research and Integrity Policy and
the Criminal Code. Any such complaint, even if the grounds for the complaint are currently known
by any employee or agent of the University, is excluded from the scope of and therefore survives the
execution of the release. For clarity, the University is currently unaware of any facts or allegations
that might give rise to a complaint.
12. The Academic Staff Member acknowledges that in accepting this Agreement, he/she has formed
his/her own opinion and judgment about the facts and circumstances and has in no way relied upon
any representations or promises made by or on behalf of the University. The Academic Staff
Member has been afforded a reasonable opportunity to seek independent legal advice, including
advice from the AASUA, prior to executing this Agreement.
13. Without limiting the effect of item 15 hereof, the Academic Staff Member acknowledges his/her
duty of confidentiality in relation to internal University affairs, which flows from his/her status as a
former University employee.
14. The Academic Staff Member hereby releases and forever discharges the University, including its
past and present governors, officers, employees, affiliates, successors, agents and assigns from all
manner of action and actions, causes of action, suits, complaints, grievances, appeals, claims,
referrals to arbitration, debts, dues, sums of money, damages, costs, losses and demands whatsoever,
at law or in equity, which he/she may have had or does have against the University, including its past
and present governors, officers, employees, affiliates, successors, agents and assigns with respect to
any matter, cause or thing existing up to the present time, including but not limited to the Academic
Staff Member’s employment with the University, salary and benefits entitlements, and the
resignation or retirement of the Academic Staff Member from his/her employment with the
University.
15. The University confirms that the terms of this Agreement are confidential, in accordance with the
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Alberta) and the policies of the University,
and affirms that the University’s employees must comply with those privacy obligations owed to the
Academic Staff Member. The University’s commitment to confidentiality does not preclude the
University from disclosing the terms of this Agreement for any legal or arbitral proceeding, or to any
external benefits provider or auditor, or as otherwise required by law.
