1UNDERSTANDING YOUR CENSUS FORM
AM I A REGISTERED VOTER?
If column G on your census form is blank you are NOT a registered voter.
You CANNOT register to vote or change your party on the census form.
WHY AM I AN INACTIVE VOTER?
Registered voters who have an “I” in column H on the census form are inactive voters. In order to
maintain your active status you MUST return a census form. Inactive voters are required to complete
additional forms & show an ID at elections in order to vote. Completing these forms at an election
does NOT update your census -- you MUST return a census form to become active & avoid
completing these forms at future elections. Inactive voters who do not respond to the census
confirmation mailing or vote for 4 consecutive years are deleted from the voting list.

HOW DO I INDICATE SOMEONE HAS MOVED
If someone has moved out of the household, place an “M” in column J of the census form. Please note that if
they are a registered voter they MUST also provide us with the new address, city/town for the change to be
processed. When we are notified that a voter has moved (new address included) they are DELETED as a
voter in Norton and MUST register in their new community to continue to be a registered voter. If an address
is NOT provided the voter is removed from the household for census purposes (see Multiple Census section
below).
WHY AM I RECEIVING MULTIPLE CENSUS FORMS?
If everyone in your family is NOT appearing on the same census form & you are receiving multiple forms, at
some point we were notified that someone in your household had moved but a new address was not provided
(see MOVED section above). Simply send back all forms together & note one household on the form or write
in the missing people on the form with the head of household to receive a single census form in the future.
