Casual Service Contract – Payroll Guidelines and Instructions
The following information is required on the contract:
Name
Address
Phone Number
Date of Birth
Contract number
Date [of issue]
Fund or Org Code (see award letter)
Banner ID
SIN
You must create a unique Contract number for each contract issued. Use an identifying acronym,
for example, the six-digit fund or org number (stated on the award letter) followed by sequential
digits, e.g. 123456-01. (8 digits max)
The Banner ID number (same as the student number if the employee is or was a Kwantlen
student) is required, unless this is a new employee, in which case Payroll will assign an ID
number.
Terms of Contract
Include a Start Date and an End Date
Payment Terms: Indicate the hourly rate to be paid. RA salaries vary, depending on duties, and
can range from $12 to $25/hour. Consider whether the agreed on payment terms will be inclusive
or exclusive of 4% vacation pay.
For budget purposes, calculate 8% benefits (WCB, EI and CPP) paid by Kwantlen from your
Special Purpose Fund into the cost of the contract.
Example:
$15/hour, plus 4% vacation and benefits = a cost of $16.85/hour
Total Hours of Contract / total Cost: these fields are optional
Employee and Researcher must sign the Contract.
Submit original documents to Payroll, Langley campus.
