25 min.
Task: Students will work in groups of three. While one person tosses the ball to a
partner, the other will record the score. Each person practices the skill three times.
Rotate positions and complete the diagnostic task sheet for each member of the
group.
Extension: If someone is having difficulty tracking the ball, have them use a
volleyball trainer or a beach ball.
Cues:
Watch the ball
Hands together
Get under the ball
Use your legs
Application: On your second trial, see if you can correctly perform more of the
components of the forearm pass than you did on your first trial.
10 min.
Formation: Students find personal space on one half of one volleyball court.
Students perform stretches simultaneously with next task. One student leads and the
others follow.
Task - Discuss areas where there were problems and review.
Questions to be asked: What were your group’s strengths? What were the areas of
weakness in your group? How can we correct those problems?
Closure:
What are the primary cue words you would use to perform the forearm pass?
What are two differences between process and product evaluations?

Student Assessment:
Student mastery of the four key components of the forearm pass (eye contact on ball, hands
remaining joined, using a poking action, and using legs for power) will be determined by teacher
observation and partner evaluations using the diagnostic check sheets.
Teacher questioning will determine student understanding of process and product evaluations.
Teacher observation will assess students working cooperatively.
Brief Reflection:
1. Was I able to work individually with each student?
2. Was my feedback skill-related and specific?
3. Were the students able to use the task sheets effectively?
