Fearful of strangers- Explores world through 5 senses
Toddlers
Short attention span- Little understanding of time- May think
1-3 years
painful experiences are punishment for being bad
Preschoolers
Uses imagination, fantasy and magical thinking to help explain the
3-6 years
world around them- Is concerned with loss of control- May show
changes in behavior or regress during stressful situations
School Aged
Eager to learn, begins to think logically- Separation anxiety
6-12 years
decreases and peer groups become more important- Enjoys talking
about likes, dislikes, hobbies, and collections
Adolescents
Begins to develop independent identity- Highly value privacy- Body
12-18 years
image concerns/rapid physical growth and development- Focus on
relationships with the opposite sex- Peer group is very important
