Policies and Procedures for Parents
The Extended Day Program is offered to 3K through kindergarten students who are enrolled in First Presbyterian Day School Downtown. The program
will operate on weekdays from 12:15 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. during the school year (August to May). During some school holidays and summer months, the
program will operate from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The center will be closed on the following holidays: September 2, 2013, October 14, 2013, November 27, 28, 29, 2013, December 24, 25, 31, 2013,
January 1, 20, 2014, February 17, 18, 2014, April 18, 2014, May 26, 2014, and July 4, 2014. Parents will be notified about any special circumstances
which necessitate closing the program on any given day.
A child may be enrolled in the Extended Day Program for one day, two days, three days, or four/five days. The fee for four days or five days is the
same. A family may change or cancel the daycare plan for his/her child at any time during the school year with a thirty day written notice to Director,
Jean O’Dillon. You will also be asked to fill out a new Parental Agreement indicating the upcoming change. Cancellations are honored provided the
child has been enrolled in the plan for at least three consecutive months. The summer program is run on a weekly basis. The specific scheduled days of
stay must be indicated the week before your child’s stay.
APPLICATIONS:
In case of an emergency, every child in 3K through kindergarten should be enrolled in the Extended Day Program. The registration of $25 will be waived
until the FIRST time a child uses the program. Enrollment forms are not a commitment for your child to stay in the program, but are kept on file in case
he/she needs to stay. Application forms must be completed and returned to the director before your child's first day in the program, including drop-ins.
Be sure to contact the director if there are any changes in the information during the year.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance in the Extended Day Program will only be allowed when a student has attended 3K through kindergarten classes for that day. FPDS’ EDP
admits children to our program without regard to race, religion, color and national or ethnic origin. We encourage parents and students to participate in
all school activities. Extended Day does not have any other special religious or cultural events that we attend.
The child will be escorted to Extended
Day by their classroom teacher and will be needed to be picked up from Extended Day by a parent or authorized release person. The parents may have
access to all center areas as long as they have signed in or made there presence known to a staff member. If your child attends Extended Day on a
monthly plan, please notify the Extended Day staff when there is any change in your child’s schedule. Drop-ins are welcome in the program under the
conditions that parents notify the office twenty four hours in advance, due to the limited space available for drop-ins. If the program staff is not notified
one day in advance, we may be unable to accept your child that day due to staffing requirements. If your child is a Drop-in and there is no prior notice
given, additional charges will apply.
DISCIPLINE:
We expect all children enrolled in the program to behave appropriately. Our teachers and director will work with the parents in guiding the children
toward good behavior. If needed, a child will be separated from the activity for a short period of time. If further disciplinary actions are needed, the
parents and the director will work together to find a solution to the problem.
DISMISSAL:
For your child's complete safety and for your convenience, we have established the following rules:
st
* When picking up your child, please park in the parking lot across the street on the corner of 1
and Mulberry or close to the entrance in the alley off of
st
1
Street and come into the building.
* For the safety of all our children, do not pick your child up without signing him/her out in the class sign out book.
* Any 3K, Pre K or Kindergarten student who is not picked up by 12:30 p.m. will automatically be admitted to the Extended Day Program, and the
registration fee, if applicable will apply.
*Any full day Pre-K and Kindergarten student who is not picked up by 3:15 will automatically be admitted to the Extended Day Program, and the
registration fee, if applicable will apply.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES:
In the event of a death or seriously injured child, the director will call 911 and the parents. Together they will decide if the parents will come for the child,
an ambulance will be called, or the child will be taken by the director and another adult to receive emergency care. Unless otherwise instructed, the
child will be taken to the Medical Center. Parents are required to sign an authorization form when they fill out an application that will give the director
permission to secure medical attention if the parents or other persons cannot be contacted.
In the event that the Extended Day building is damaged or has a loss of utilities etc., we will be in contact with the local authorities to find out if it is safe
for the students to remain on the school premises in another building (if possible) or if they need to be evacuated. If evacuation is needed we will
contact the parents for them to pick up their child. They will be taken to the ground level hallway of the Church Administration Building.
