The Kootenay-Columbia District Teachers’ Union and the Board of School District No. 20 mutually agree on the principles and
desirability of personal professional growth.
Professional growth plans are jointly endorsed as the model to provide this feedback.
Purpose
The purpose of this model of formative evaluation is to:
1. Provide a mechanism for teachers to be involved in self-reflection and professional growth.
2. Allow principals/vice-principals and teachers to form partnerships that support professional growth activities.

1. The staff and the principal/vice-principal in each school shall determine by October 1
, the details of the professional growth plan
process to be used in that school. Should the principal/vice-principal and staff be unable to reach an agreement, the

Superintendent, in consultation with the Association President, will make the determination for the school by October 15
.
2. Each teacher will then develop his/her professional growth plan collaboratively with the principal/vice-principal. This plan, along

with the consultation, must be completed by November 1
unless there is a problem as outlined in #1 above.
A professional growth plan should include:
a) Goals
b) Strategies/actions
c)
Timelines
d) Resources
e) Support
f)
Indicators of achievement
3. The teacher and the principal/vice-principal will review the plan according to the timeline established in the personal professional
growth plan. The teacher and principal/vice-principal should have at least one interim review of the professional growth plan by

4. All original documentation dealing with a teacher’s professional growth plan shall be placed in a file for that teacher. The file is to
be retained in a central location in the school office accessible to the teacher and principal/vice-principal. The contents of the

files are to be used for the professional growth plan only and shall be returned to the teacher by June 30
each year. With the
approval of the involved parties; the Professional Growth Plan may carry over for the next year.

5. By June 15
each year, the principal/vice-principal will prepare a letter for each teacher indicating the teaching assignment and
the nature of the professional growth plan that has taken place. A copy of this letter will be retained on the teacher’s personnel
file.
